The 12 Steps of NA
- Admitted powerlessness: We admitted we were powerless over our addiction β that our lives had become unmanageable. This step acknowledges the need for help and the limits of self-control.
- Believed in a higher power: Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity. It encourages openness to spiritual growth.
- Made a decision: Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him. This step involves commitment to change and trust.
- Conducted a moral inventory: Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves. This self-examination helps identify negative patterns and behaviors.
- Admitted wrongs: Admitted to God, ourselves, and another human being the exact nature of our wrongs. This step promotes honesty and vulnerability.
- Ready for change: Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character. This means willingness to let go of harmful behaviors.
- Humbly asked: Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings. This step is about seeking help to overcome personal faults.
- Made a list: Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all. It encourages accountability and repair.
- Made amends: Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others. This fosters healing relationships.
- Continued inventory: Continued to take personal inventory and when wrong promptly admitted it. Encourages ongoing self-awareness and responsibility.
- Sought spiritual connection: Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out. Emphasizes spiritual growth.
- Carried the message: Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to addicts and to practice these principles in all our affairs. Focuses on helping others and living by NAβs principles.
These steps aim to motivate members toward positive change and foster lasting recovery throughout Texas, Lubbock, and nationwide.
